Srinagar, May 04 (KNO): Despite working as frontline workers in every field National youth Corps (NYCs) are getting mere Rs 2500 as their monthly salary in Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The NYC candidates working in various departments told news agency--Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that they have been working on the frontline every time but despite that they are getting mere Rs 2500 per month. "Whether it is Covid-19, elections, flood or any eventuality we work more than a permanent employee but no body cares about our salaries," Said Rizwan Ahmad an NYC worker. "With no insurance or any other health benefit, hundreds of NYC workers are working day and night in hospitals," he said adding that imagine the plight of their families if some one among them dies in the line of duty. The NYCs are a qualified lot which includes the candidates with post-graduation with B.Ed. Some are NET qualified while as some have completed diploma in various courses. “But we face humiliation every morning after we have to ask our parents for bus fare or pocket money,” aggrieved NYC employees said. They said that the little salary that too not on time has pushed them to state of depression particularly the ones who are married and have to support a family. “Our families are at the verge of starvation, how we can feed our family from the meager salary of Rs 2500 to Rs 3000. Even this amount is not released on time,” the employees said. They said that the government should consider the situation of NYC employees and announce a hike in the monthly remuneration besides come with a Job policy for them “Most of the NYC employees are losing the hope of living, self-confidence because we are disappointed with the current situation we are going through,” they added. They urged the higher ups to increase their monthly salary and come up with a job policy for them. Pertinently, there are around six thousand NYCs in Jammu and Kashmir who were re-engaged in March 2018—(KNO)
